Bogut & Bruton save Boomers

Former Hawk CJ Bruton nailed a deep game winner as time expired to save the Boomers from an untimely upset, getting Australia home 81-78 over Angola in Nanjing, China on Thursday night.

ahm Hawk Glen Saville finished the first half with a carpark buzzer beating three to give the Boomers a 42-35 lead, their biggest of the half.

Bogut had 14 points and 9 boards at the half, Sav had 6 points on 2/2 from deep, Joe Ingles & Matt Nielsen had 5 each.

Down 75-78 inside the last minute Brad Newley and Bruton both missed threes but were saved by a pair of offensive board before CJ drove baseline and found Bogut open under the basket, he was fouled in the process and converted the free throw to tie the match at 81.

Angola missed with 17-seconds on the clock giving Australia a chance to take the game.

Bruton and Bogut ran a high pick-&-roll when the defense sagged CJ drilled the clutch three from four-feet outside as time expired for a 81-78 win.

Early in the second half, Australia extended the lead to 9 before Angola surged back and took the lead following a Mark Worthington unsportsmanlike foul.

Scores were tied 59 at end of third.

The athletic Angolans jumped the Boomers early in the 4th, opening up a 67-61 lead.

Bogut put the team on his shoulders finishing a tough layup and bonus free throw, on the next possession Boomers took back the lead 68-67 with a sweet Bogut hook shot.

Bogut was huge for Australia, finishing with 32 points and 11 rebounds.

Another former Hawk, David Andersen was held scoreless in 9 foul plauged minutes.

Australia currently sits in top spot of the Nanjing Diamond Ball competition with a 2-0 record.
